Napoleon was a general on his Egyptian campaign in 1799 when his wife Josephine, the future empress, bought the chateau of Malmaison near Paris. She hired the architects Percier and Fontaine to decorate it in a style that would be soon be known as French Empire. This style, with its simple, strong lines recalling motifs of the Roman Empire, remains greatly appreciated over two centuries later at Malmaison. Fine Art Lamps' Malmaison collection of outdoor lighting designs is in a Rich Empire Bronze finish with solid brass accents and Beige Glass.
