WHERE CAN A CHANDELIER GO?
- Anywhere you think the chandelier would look great
- Most common areas: dining room, living room, and foyer
- Popular area – large bathrooms
- Other rooms to consider – bedroom, kitchen, or studios
WHAT SIZE CHANDELIER?
Chandelier size for a room
Step One: Determine the length and width of your room.
Step Two: Add the length and width. This will be the diameter of the chandelier.
Example: Room is 16 ft by 12 ft
16 + 12 = 28
28 inch diameter (width) chandelier is needed
Chandelier size for a dining table
Step One: Determine the width of your dining table.
Step Two: Multiple the width by .75. This will be the diameter of the chandelier.
Example: 60 inches wide dining table
60 x .75 = 45
45 inch diameter (width) chandelier is needed.
Note: the chandelier should be between 30 inches to 32 inches above the table top.
HOW MUCH LIGHT?
Step One: Determine the length and width of your room.
Step Two: Multiply length by width. This will be the room's square footage.
Step Three: Multiply square footage by 1.5. This will be the number of watts total you will need for general lighting. For task lighting, you will need to multiply the square footage by 2.5 instead of 1.5.
Example: Room is 16 ft by 12 ft
16 x 12 = 192 square feet
192 x 1.5 = 288 watts for general lighting
192 x 2.5 = 480 watts for task lighting
Note: This is the total amount of watts you will need; so if the chandelier has 8 bulbs then divide the watts by 8. This will be the number of watts you need by bulb.
Example: 480 watts needed; 8 bulbs on chandelier; 480 / 8 = 60 watts per bulb
