About LED Lighting

L.E.D.s (Light Emitting Diodes) are small electrical semi-conductors that produces visible light and first were only used in computers and other electrical devices. However, emerging technologies have transformed LEDs into a safe and very energy efficient lighting alternative, and they are quickly becoming more practical for residential use. While one LED is usually only effective for use in small flashlights, clusters of LEDs have been developed to create light levels very similar to that of standard incandescent bulbs while using a fraction of the energy.  

Some of the advantages of using LEDs

1. Energy Efficient: LEDs use a fraction of the power that standard incandescents use and therefore are perfect for use with solar power, rechargeable batteries or other renewable energy sources. Longer life and lower wattage translates into savings on your power bill and much less frequent bulb changing.
2. Longer Lasting: LEDs last up to 10 times longer than Compact Fluorescent bulbs and more than 100 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs.
3. Never Hot: LEDs produce 95% less heat then incandescent bulbs and are safe to touch no matter how long they are on. This is especially safe for outdoor landscape lighting systems where children or pets may come in contact with a light fixture.
4. Shatter Proof: LED casings are made of a high density plastic rather than glass and therefore can easily withstand dropping and accidental bumps.
5. Cost Effective: In the past decade the production costs of LEDs have steadily gone down. Although LED fixtures are typically more expensive, the cost is supplemented over time through energy savings and less frequent bulb changing.
