Not only is the general room size something to consider, but the height of your ceiling, placement over other furniture, and your desired personal style come into play. Below are three questions that you should ask yourself before finding the chandelier meant for your space.
1. Do you need a mini or large chandelier?
When to Choose a mini Chandelier *A mini chandelier is defined by 20 inches wide or less size - Ideal for small spaces - Can be used in multiples
Shop Mini ChandeliersWhen to Choose a Large Chandelier *A large chandelier is defined by a width of greater than 20 inches - Great for bigger spaces - Preferred for entry ways or staircase

As a special consideration, in your dining room, the chandelier should have a diameter that is 1 foot shorter than the width of the table, and should hang 24-36 inches above the table.
2. How will this chandelier fit in the space?
Finding the right size chandelier for your room can be as simple as the equation below:
Width of Your Space (Feet) + Length of Your Space (Feet) = Width of Chandelier (Inches)
This dining room table is 36 inches wide and 48 inches long. 36 (width in inches) - 12 (1 foot in inches) = 24" chandelier diameter
Entryway
If the ceiling in your entryway is higher than standard, make sure to allow 2.5-3 inches of chandelier height for every foot tall your ceiling is. Unlike the dining room, you will use a variation of the formula from above: Width of Your Space (Feet) + Height of Your Space (Feet) = Width of Chandelier (Inches)
3. What extra materials might I need?
Once you’ve selected a style and size of chandelier for your space, decide if you will need chains or stems to hang the fixture.
